I pressed counter and even then the Red Mushroom kill myself should drop rays

yeah sometimes it doesnt work for me too. but i think it might be because of what level its on

If you move the mouse over the pet Counter ability you will see that it gives a description for it. Basically Counter by design is not 100%, and the higher level the Counter ability is the higher chance of it activating when attacked.
